Urban Garden Application Requirements
Threshold criteria:
Five Households
Minimum of 5 independent households committed to creating, maintaining and sustaining this community garden.
Contact Information
Garden Manager - contact information of the garden group leader.
Sponsoring Organization
Garden Sponsor Organization - non-profit authorized to enter into a licensure agreement with the City of Atlanta and serve as the garden group's fiscal sponsor.
Worksheet + Form
Submit a "Creating a Community Garden" worksheet and "AgLanta Grows-A-Lot Urban Garden Application" form.
Liability Insurance
Indicate team is prepared to: acquire garden general liability insurance (1 million), complete the City of Atlanta's Urban Garden SAP Permit (Site Plan + Management Plan) before licensure granted

1) Complete the "AgLanta Grows-A-Lot Site Inquiry" online form (to the right) to ask about a site, or sign up for an open house.
2) Participate in an open house (site visit + information session) for the property of interest.
3) Submit an "AgLanta Grow-A-Lot Urban Garden Application" and "Creating a Community Garden" worksheet.
Please reference AgLanta Resources and "Recommended Urban Ag Uses " for the site in your application. Let's partner to grow a safe, equitable and resilient food system!

Urban Garden Review Process
Review Period: (TBD in 2020).
Applicants that meet 100% of the threshold requirements are awarded an Urban Garden Site on a first come, first serve basis.
If multiple request for the same site are received simultaneously, preference points will be awarded to applicants who have a:
Higher percentage of garden group applicants who live, work, or own a business within one mile of the site.
Graduated from a regional garden training program (Ex: Truly Living Well, HABESHA, Georgia Organics, UGA, Global Growers, apprenticed with a local garden or farm etc.)
If established criteria do not produce a clear candidate, CoA will hold a lottery to assign site.
Applicants will be notified if they have been selected by (TBD in 2020).Garden Team Applicants - please prepare to attend AgLanta Academy if you are selected.
Submitting Urban Garden SAP, Licensure Agreement, Proof of Insurance
Requirements for Adoption Finalized: (TBD 2020)
AgLanta Grows-A-Lot Adopters must submit:
" Urban Garden SAP": (Site Plan + Management Plan): plans must adhere to approved urban agriculture uses for that site; CoA Urban Agriculture Ordinance; and CoA Bee City Resolution. (*AgLanta Team can assist at AgLanta Academy.)
Five-year "Licensure Agreement" between the Garden Sponsor Organization and City of Atlanta.
"Certificate of General Liability Insurance" in the amount of no less than $1 million with the City of Atlanta listed as an additionally insured party. ( * Groundwork Atlanta can cover your insurance at no cost to your urban garden!)
Submit AgLanta Grows-A-Lot Urban Garden forms to:

The following application administration and license fees will be paid at the time the license agreement is finalized:
Five-year license administrative fee and annual license fee for 5-year adoption. (waived/ $1).
Water meter at site/back flow ($0.00 paid for by City )
Insurance ( $0.00 - paid by Groundwork Atlanta)
Urban Agriculture SAP ($30.00/year).
Provide a check payable to:
“City of Atlanta” in the form of cash, credit card, personal/cashier check, or money order.
